This incredible 1952 Topps Al "Red" Schoendienst card #91 painted when he was twenty-eight but he somehow looks old, (he's always looked old, hasn't he?) the artist even then projecting him into the future as if he knew Red was going to be around forever.

Red's cap brim is scarlet in the top center and a pale blonde bat on his shoulder leads your eye to two red-birds on the St. Louis Cardinal's logo near his hands, then follows the red stripes up his uniform shoulders, wrapping around his throat into the background: a twilit hazy vision glowing amber behind him, dark columns and girders of the stands looming and inviting, just look at it...
